The Free Press (AKA The Freep) is a pretty liberal rag and it is astonishing to see an op-ed piece blaming Detroit's problems on anything or anyone inside the city limits. Unfortunately, Mr. Thompson has yet to appreciate the full scope of the issues, choosing not to blame democrats, liberals or the voters but just the city leaders - as if the city had elected perfectly fine people that just somehow always get magically contaminated. He even concludes this article with:
Uhm. Nope. No they do not. They keep voting for these people. The logical assumption is that they like what they get. Maybe not all of them, but a solid majority of them actually want their city to be a hellhole.

All the gun control laws in the world won't stop this kid. At 15 he's a hardened criminal and needs to be treated as such. Locked up until he's an old, old man. This is who they keep letting back out on the street, and this is who is doing the killing.

Not Chicago, but GA. Goblins hold up a mom pushing a stroller with her 1-year old. Since she doesn't have any money, they bust a cap into the kid's skull:
Georgia police are going door-to-door in search of two young suspects who are accused of shooting and killing a 1-year-old boy as his mother pushed him in a stroller.
Sherry West, the mother of the child, told police she was walking her 13-month-old son, Antonio, in a stroller Thursday morning through their Brunswick, Ga., neighborhood when two African-American boys approached her and demanded money. When she told them she didn't have any money, West said one of the boys pulled out a handgun.
"He said, 'I'm going to kill you if you don't give me money,' and I said, 'I swear I don't have any,"' West told WAWS-TV in Jacksonville, Fla.
West said she tried to shield her child with her arms, but the gunman shoved her and shot the baby in the head. West was shot in the leg.

bizarre paranoia that anyone offering help from outside Detroit must have some secret agenda
My first thought re paranoia is white people.
A friend of mine from Detroit (he recently moved to Duck Dynasty country) often said that white people who offered input or somehow were hired into the city management were pretty much brushed off. "We don't want your help or your kind in our city attitude". Probably not much different than my friend offering help or showing them a different way to do things to the people of Duck Dynasty. Capece?

Far as I'm concerned, let 'em rot. They deserve to get what they voted for. White, black, hispanic, I don't give a shit. They all voted for it, they get to live in it.
