I hear ya. My angle is the Feds' pony up a 6 Billion grant and transfer to the CPD. Yes, we're all going broke, and I realize this is all theoretical (and flies in the face of my libertarian political beliefs), BUT, 6 Billion isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things. Even if we did do pay-go, cut 6 Billion from defense or the department of education, and it's an easy solution. It could be viewed as a temporary program. After 5 years, draw down the forces, just like Iraq

I admire your bravado and candor. But that flies in the face of everything we believe as a society, not to mention the law, and leads to serious, serious consequences. For instance, people like me getting smoked in the cross fire when im out at the convenience store buying a loaf of bread. I would say we're not past the point of no return. Drug legalization would drain the swamps. Put these losers to work. More cops, and I mean a lot more cops, would have the same affect as troops on the streets. You might be interested to know recently leaked US Army manuals specify instructions for the operation of civilian internment and reeducation (yes, they use the actual word, "reeducation") camps inside the US. Not outside. Inside. Other US Army manuals specify instruction on how to accomplish civilian gun confiscation, on Americans. Not foreigners. Americans. So while all this is fun internet talk about how best to take out the trash, the US Government is literally making preparations to use the US Military on the American people and put us in camps. This is all under the auspices of DHS, "civil emergency", and "civil unrest". Think a dollar and economic collapse in a few years with a 20-25% contraction in GDP. hmm.

Yes, it does fly in the face of everything we supposedly believe in as a society. Legalizing some drugs would help, but these guys ain't going to work. They'll just deal other designer drugs, and the home made stuff like meth. They'll still pimp, rob and steal. They won't take a straight job, period.
More cops with a looser reign on deadly force would help, but that's obviously problematic.
Bottom line, it's pretty much a war zone and in war you quiclky find that everything you believe in goes out the window pretty damn fast. You do what needs doing and hope you can look yourself in the face when it's done. Fat chance of that happening, but it is what it is.
I guess we can agree that there are some tough choices coming up for all of us, on this issue and others. It ain't gonna' be pretty cause we have no leaders.
I'm all for legalization of ALL drugs. However, that won't stop the crime I agree. One of the biggest drugs traded by gangs in Chicago is cigarettes!!! Due to the exorbitant city taxes we have here on tobacco products.
