Chicago Police captain shot, suspect barricaded inside Englewood home
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A Chicago Police captain was shot Tuesday evening in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, sources said.
About 6 p.m., the 58-year-old man was shot in the head and chest near 72nd and Lowe, according to a police source. He was taken to Stroger Hospital according to a hospital spokeswoman.
He was listed in critical condition, though a police source said the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The alleged shooter, Daniel Brown, is wanted in Indiana, a police source told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Sources tell FOX59 News that Brown had been tracked to his sister's apartment in Englewood in a semi tractor-trailer he had stolen from a south side Marion County truck yard Sunday - the day after he allegedly shot three people in Indianapolis. Brown is now barricaded inside his sister's apartment with the woman and reportedly is armed with two guns.
Chicago Police confirmed police activity in the area but could not confirm any other details.
SWAT Teams, police snipers and negotiators were all on scene along with hundreds of police officers and onlookers.
Police, including the Hostage, Barricade and Terrorist team are on the scene at 72nd and Lowe, where shots continue to be fired from inside the building, according to dispatch reports.
