Jury Duty

Agreed, I bet your f&cks tell your kids to go to college so they don't get stuck in Iraq too. (borrowed from Sen. John Kerry, a Dem, go figure!)

I just got called up for jury duty. I am a professional trader and I was curious how other professional traders have handled this particular obstacle to earning a living. Any thoughts/advice for getting excused?

The county where I live has a painless way to deal with jury duty. I say painless because most of the time your service isn't needed anyway and they really don't want or need you there taking up space so they've implemented a reasonable system to help streamline the process.
When I get a notice to serve, I'm assigned a juror number. Starting on the Sunday night of the week I'm scheduled to serve, I call a toll free number provided me to see if I have to report or not. If the recorded response is no you go about your normal routine but you have to call again the next night. If you make it thru Wednesday without being called, you're not getting called.
Over the last 15 years I have not had to report for jury duty.
If you do get called let them know where you stand on everything from race, religion, doctors, illegal immigrants, cops, lawyers, etc., etc. and they'll probably send you packing. Like previous posters have said, anyone with a mind of their own, a strong opinion or strong will doesn't fit with them selecting the "right" jury. Ask OJ, he has first hand experience with this.

You should go and check it out. I found it to be quite interesting, but then I tend to take civic responsibility more seriously than others. Actually, the easiest way to get excused, if you must, is to tell them it's against your religious beliefs to judge another human being. Sounds corny, but I've seen it work time and again.
I've served on a couple of jurys, and I found the experience interesting and actually enjoyable. However, they were both less than a week...much more of that kind of "stuff" probably would not be good for my psyche. Listening to lawyers try to manipulate words and people is only fun for so long, just like some of the ongoing arguments we see here, LOL.

In the future, if you dont vote, i am pretty sure, that you wont get called to serve.
I quit voting about 12 years ago, and have not been asked since.
Just my opinion, as far as voting goes, after looking the political situation, I couldnt see how it affects me much, regardless of who is calling the shots.
Someone else, made a good point also, just chunk it in the trash, and I doubt much will happen, the first time.

On one side I agree with hydro, they don't give a shit about you then you don't give a shit about them but... just step back a bit and see how hilarious it is to assemble the powers of ET to brainstorm how to get out of jury duty!
