Journalists haven't lost their guts. Few ever had any. What they have lost is their integrity. They used to at least pretend to be objective. Now they see their job as advocacy for "progressive " causes. Objectivity has no place in the modern newsroom. You can ask Sharyl Atkinson.
It's hardly a recent phenomenon however. Walter Cronkite was hailed as the gold standard of objectivity and honesty, but his reports were terribly biased and he revealed himself in later life as a far left nutcase.
FDR was desperate to get us in WW II and used an adoring media to convince a sceptical public.
JFK is regularly listed as one of our greatest presidents but few can name any accomplishments, other than maybe setting the record for extramarital affairs in the White House. Conversely, Richard Nixon is reviled even today. His supposed trangressions look laughable against those of Obama or Clinton.
