Yup. The numbers in reality are far higher. Vietnam is obviously fabricating data. Many other developing countries had no proper testing until May this year, previous deaths weren't counted as Covid deaths.

Just a side note - I used to have to wear really high performance respirators on occasion as a Nuclear Engineer years ago.
Looking at pictures of South Koreans during the pandemic- their masks cover most of their face area and they are quite tight fitting.
Very much different than the dust masks (N95 is meaningless with leakage) Westerners use.

Employers in major clothes and other intensive manufacturing cities in Asia and where I live in South America have required masks for any ill workers for a long time, some decades.
They do it for a reason, it reduces transmission of cold and flu. There are however too many poor quality and bad design masks being made.
Even if they are not great masks, they do act as a reminder to distance and use gel/wash hands which is very worthwhile.

Living in Asia for a few years after the military...there was a list of face masks that were poor quality and a few on that list were listed as dangerous due to the chemicals (colors) used in the face mask.
At that time, I always got my supply of medical face masks from the hospital. Thus, stayed with one of the approved brands of face mask.
Today, about a month ago, I came across articles about poor quality hand sanitizers. A lot of fake and/or dangerous stuff out there...gotta be careful of what you buy.
Many of the stuff were manufactured out of Asia.

The usual problem is that most of the hand sanitizers do nothing against CV as you need 60% alcohol at minimum. Some have no alcohol at all...

people here know the sanitiser gels are below par in alcohol content so top them up with pure alcohol.Kids and adults will quickly stop rubbing their eyes when they have gel on them mind you so there is that.
There should have been standards set months back, keep which mask you choose voluntary but make it simple to see the tested performance rating based on a couple of simple metrics. If it has not been lab certified, it does not get the stamp of approval.
I learned to wear a mask long before the Pandemic after living in Asia a few years. It's truly a no big deal. Stop fearing the face mask. In Asia, its the norm for a few decades now and very fashionable.
have you ever read the inscription on the package of masks? Look closer and you will see something like 'the mask does not protect from viruses, for virus protection use medical respirator'
virus is as small as molecule and the mask from pharma shop is full of holes for virus, like sieve for water
people wear mask in Asia (Bangkok, Shanghai, Peking, etc) to protect from dust and smog and it's the only correct reason to wear the mask
total 'mask obligation' is one of the elements of worlwide economical and financial artifical upheaval
it is all about the money.
can't speak about other countries but for Russia the real number is about 100 times lower, not 1.6% but 0.016% mortality looks more realistic
