The money he gave away went to good causes. Money paid to the government in taxes would have been pissed away. It appears you really don't know a lot about Sir John Templeton. Go read his book Discovering the Laws of Life.

Well I'd either end up in jail or have to hire a hell of a good lawyer. Thats ok by me though because I wouldnt give up my US Citizanship for all the money in the world. He did though, so he did not owe the taxes.
