The word hero is thrown around so loosely these days it's difficult to know who is deserving and who isn't. I have no opinion on the "hero status" of John McCain. Perhaps he was, perhaps he was not.
My only question and concern regarding the past year(s) of his life is how can a person of such age and poor health be allowed to remain in office when it's painfully obvious that person is unable to preform the most basic element of that job? That is to just show up for work. There should be something in place to remove people from office when it's obvious they cannot preform the functions of that office.
We Americans don't expect much of our politicians, but we do expect them to at least show up.
The people of AZ. were without representation and that's a problem.
Bottom line, he should have resigned his position a year ago, some would argue more than that. An actual patriot who cared more for country than personal status would have done that. Of that, there can be no debate.
