John Conyers suddenly decides its a good day to retire

No lie there. They want to move Al out so that they can have Keith Ellison appointed to fill his position, thus pre-positioning him for 2020 as VP or more.

Long game would be true for sure.

The party wouldn't give Ellison the DNC job but you think they are going to pick him to be VP ?

I hope you are right. Pro terrorist Ellison will be a loser for the Dems.

Heh, perhaps you have been out on the Mothership for a bit too long and have not heard that the DNC does not control the democrats anymore. Being scorned by the DNC (think Bernie) is one of the quickest ways to be embraced by the "progressive" wing of the party- which by the way is the only wing of the party that is energized and will receive massive donations directly from dem voters versus Dud Village a/k/a the DNC.

Usual Names agrees with me on this but it is not politically correct for him/her to come out and say so but he knows the DNC is the enemy of a future for the party, not the solution. You- however- are still out on the Mothership receiving radio signals that left the earth four years ago.

Even if the party processes go through the DNC it will still be different. Perhaps you have not gotten word that the Clintons and all their power and surrogates have left the building- and their stench is what controlled much of what has gone on at the DNC in the past. Strike that/ they controlled everything. When you get back you will see some changes and those changes are all favorable to Keith Ellison or to someone who was previously unacceptable.

Little too soon for a radical Islamist like Ellison, even for the left. 2024, maybe. I think their game is keep the sexual misconduct scandals going strong no matter how many of their own they need to sacrifice. If they can pin something on Trump in the next year, win back a majority in the senate, pick up house seats, they'll impeach. Either Trump goes, or gets his armor seriously dented, and Pence is an easy target in 2020 if he's the man running. 2020 is going to be the year of the woman, get the man pigs out. Warren seems too obvious and if Hillary dares to enter some lefty will red dot her ass for good. They won't blow it again with her. My money is on a woman in 2020. Who that will be is up for grabs. Grabs, get it? I slay myself sometimes.

Yeh, but my point remains that this thing with Franken is related to the presidential race and they know he is now too damaged to be a potential candidate and that the party is better served to elevate someone who needs to be pre-positioned for future action of some sort. Whether 2020 or 2024 or whatever. In any case, expect to hear his name often for various reasons in the next couple weeks.

The other thing, and I will not digress too much, is that I am sort of with Rumsfeld when he says there are known knowns and unknown unknowns or whatever. I think the Bernie wing of the party is deadly serious about seeing an American Progessive Party established and maybe that can be held off if a progressive candidate gets the nomination with the regular party. But this is Bernies last hurrah and he and many of his followers will go third-party in a flash if they are treated like they were last time- and you tell them that that will assure that the republicans will win that will make no difference whatsoever. So, I agree that it is too early for Ellison to be a VP candidate within the regular dud dnc party- but not in a progressive party. Note also, I am not saying Bernie would lead that ticket.

Far-fetched? Not really. I would not bet on a third party but I would not want to be the one to try stop the "progressives" either if they get the slightest whiff of anything like last time.

Also, in your calculation of impeachment chances if they can get more republicans, remember that it requires a two thirds vote to convict in the senate. So, yes to the general idea but the numbers are steep.

Anyway, about Friday expect to hear more about Keith Ellison than you want. Probably would not take much.

Look how much farther left the democrats have moved in the last decade. Who would have thought Ellison would be in the number two position at the dnc a couple of years ago. Unless the democrats make a course correction, it would not surprise me at all to see Ellison in the mix. I could also see the super delegates overruling the majority of delegates.

Yes, and really just in the last year too.

Hillary did not have the balls to talk single payer or socialism for real in the campaign. She would go left but make sure she did not touch that rail 100%.

Now half the dem senators have come out already and signed up for it as a platform goal.

We know the republicans have problems but the dems have big problems too. They came out of their loss in 2016 concluding that they need to recapture their working class roots and move toward the center and get out of all this lefty identity politics stuff, chasing transgenders and Hispanics for their votes while demonizing the the heartland of the country. Then the far left progressive wing immediately started driving the party even further to the left to get even for the dnc marginalizing them and Bernie. Not a good mix. I don't have the answer to that one, and they sure as hell don't either. What I do know is that their far left learned a lesson last time that they will never forget. The dnc and crooked Hillary worked to defeat them every step of the way.

Keith Ellison certainly fits the profile of what the left is looking for. No doubt he's being groomed for a top slot. What does them in now though is they always overplay their hand and get out way too far ahead of themselves. They can't wait for the day when whitey doesn't carry so much weight at the polls, but that's another 15-20 years away. With that in mind and the country shifting further left socially with every passing decade, this country is destined for third world status. I expect to be dead by then, but if I was a white guy under 40 I'd be looking for other places to live.
