Jobless numbers revisions- LMAO

These numbers are a joke. Every month they revise the previous months' numbers nigher by 25,000-35,000 more jobless.

All the government numbers are manipulated. It's ridiculous that the market watches them so closely.

Numbers are revised up and down...it's completely legit for numbers to not be finalized immediately...It's not manipulation, it's simply logistics. As more data comes in after the original number has been announced, the unemployment number is revised.

The Labor Department today also published its preliminary estimate for the annual benchmark revisions to payrolls that will be issued in February. They showed the economy may have lost an additional 824,000 jobs in the 12 months ended March 2009. The data currently show a 4.8 million drop in employment during that time.

824,000 seems like a pretty big miss, even spread out over a year.

In the normal process of data gathering and analysis, what Kassz007 says is true, numbers are revised as legitimate new information comes days (or weeks) after the initial numbers were release.

But in the case of the government it's really just a huge game of three-card-monty, where they shuffle numbers and plays games with everyone's perception of economic reality.

The game works until it doesn't, and that's what generates the 80 to 100pt down moves in the S&P 500. :D
