Job Fight: Immigrants vs. Locals

Quote from maxpi:

We have tax incentives for corporations to outsource. Hopefully Obama will take care of that quickly. In the 1930's lots of jobs could not be gotten without "native son" papers. I'm sure we will go that way, everything else in the cycle is repeating, why not that?

He won't, who put those tax incentives in place? Multinationals. Companies like IBM that sell "global solutions" lobbied for this kind of tax incentives.

Well MSU is a good school-nothing against EMU but here are the much, much lower rates:

In-State/Ohio Residents

Tuition & Fees: $4,034.50
Room & Board: $3,676.00
Total: $7,710.50

Out-of-State
Tuition & Fees: $10,732.00
Room & Board: $3,676.00
Total: $14,408.00

Bottom line: A kid in Detroit can commute to Ypsilanti and get a four-year degree for less than 17k.

Yea, if i had to do it over again i'd be going to the local community college and transfer as many credits as possible to MSU. All the while working part time at least while going to community college.

$10 and hour, times 40 hours times 4.3 weeks = $1720 a month – 20% in taxes = $1376 a month.

Minimal housing: $500
Utilities: $100
Health insurance: $272
Co-Pays and prescriptions: $50
Food: $300
Transportation: $200 (I wish)
Phone: $50
Clothes: $50
Household items: $100

Hmmm $1622 for bare essentials and we haven’t even gotten to any entertainment or luxuries like education or pets. Of course this is assuming Murphy doesn’t show up either. You sound like Pharoah telling the slaves to make bricks without straw and then blaming them when they don’t. So as soon as you tell everybody here how to turn water into wine, how can you say people aren’t living within their means?

What state are you in ?

$20800 after federal taxes leaves you $19423 or $1494 every 4 weeks.

How old are you ?
Your health insurance is way to high. You can get a policy from Unicare or BCBS for way less than that. I am at least 10 years older than you and pay $130 with dental insurance included.

Food seems a little on the high side. Oatmeal for breakfast and tuna/turkey/chicken sandwiches are your friend. If you must eat out, find a mexican food place and the smaller ones will sell individual tacos for less than $2. Order water, eat the free chips and dip, and leave a dollar tip, you can even add a side of beans or rice for a $1. Total meal cost you 3 to 4 bucks with a tip.

Housing: Get a roommate

Those numbers are per semester (15 credits.) It is $8k per year. AT these costs, kids are better off becoming plumbers or professional soldiers.

Quote from Now is Now:

You have no idea what "poor" is until you go to India...as for the middle class in India, approximately 700 million....the reason they are so highly educated, by family "persuasion", is that they too will become "poor" if they are not educated.

They know their route out of the country is their education....those working there with B.A. Eng. etc are those you speak to (service calls) earning approximately $7 per hour...

They are veddy, veddy grateful for the work, Sabi:p

Their degrees are a joke and their work quality is also. They don't do the same work for less money, they do worse work for less money. Cost savings are due to lower quality, and the consumers just accept it.

Quote from forextrades:

You should have went to Florida State. $130/credit, plus you can test out of all the lower division gen-ed/free elective courses for a $70 testing fee.

You could theoretically complete a bachelors for less than $10k.

AND you'll see more hot women in one day at FSU than you will in 4 years at any school in Michigan..........:D

Quote from pupu:

As someone who worked many years in the financial services industry in NYC I can also attest that most IT staff in these companies have been replaced and outsourced by Indians, Chinese and East Europeans/Russians despite a willing and available American supply of workers. I've also seen this happening in the big accounting firms here.

Thats a free market economy - they doing cheaper. How can you argue with free market?
