Actually mathew made up the virgin birth story. its a nice fable to help indoctrinate the little children in sunday school class but it simply is not reality:

its all primitive superstition. jesus was just a normal man elevated to deity status by his followers after his death much like martin luther king today:Quote from Wallet:
Jesus was born of a Virgin, a fulfillment of a prophecy foretold in Isaiah. Matthew and Luke did not create a story they just related the facts.
This is a central prerequisite for the Christian faith, for without this fact Jesus would be just a normal man unable to atone for his own sin let alone be a propitiation for the sin of Mankind. But because he was born of the Holy Spirit via Mary, he was both God and man, as noted in (John 1) The Word became flesh........ incapable of sin, and perfect to stand as God's sacrifice of redemption, the only way to perfectly redeem an imperfect mankind was a perfect sacrifice, that of himself.
The virgin birth was but one of the nearly 200 prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, however there are more that will be fulfilled upon his second coming.
This is a matter of Christian faith, please don't waist anyone's time trying to compare elements of Zoasterism or anything else.
Merry Christmas
Quote from Mom0/pH0x:
Actually, nearly all serious academics who have looked into the issue concur that christ was NOT born on dec 25, or even in the winter time for that matter....
The celebration of Christ's birth in the the early church
In the first 200 years of Christian history, no mention is made of the calendar date of Jesus' birth. Not until the year 336 do we find the first mention of a celebration of His birth.
Why this omission? In the case of the Church fathers, the reason is that, during the three centuries after Christ's life on earth, the event considered most worthy of commemoration was the date of His death. In comparison, the date of His birth was considered insignificant. As the Encyclopedia Americana explains, "Christmas... was, according to many authorities, not celebrated in the first centuries of the Christian church, as the Christian usage in general was to celebrate the death of remarkable persons rather than their birth..." (1944 edition, "Christmas").
