These are the latest versions of the books that got me going with C# and C++ (both thanks to posts by others here on ET!)...

What is the best book to learn the basics of Java 8?

It depends on your level of experience with programming in general and Java. I would go to amazon.com and read the reviews for java 8 books.

I'm not planning on doing the exam, but it looks to be pitched about right for me. i.e. start at the basics and then move on ...
