Jasper pre-beta available

I don't know why. I do get quotes via SierraChart and via Auto Trader, but not via Bracket Trader and your software. I tried at least 3 times, each time downloading and installing your software anew. It does not even try to make a connection to IB unlike SierraChart or Auto Trader.

Why is it so? Any ideas? Do you think this can have something to do with my registry? I downloaded Trader.Net (a similar application) and I even cannot start it because it complains about something in my registry. Or perhaps I am missing some dll's?

I am using Windows 98SE, it is very nicely optimized, works well with 3 monitors, does not have problems with anything else except very few programs like yours. Not all of them, just three that are meant to work with IB TWS.

Can you tell me why I need to use 2 setup programs? The main zip file comes with some setup program called Setup and another zip file called Jasper that contains many dll and ocx files and one more setup, called Setup1. I unzipped that file and frankly don't know what I am supposed to do with it. I gather that dll and ocx files are needed for something but where to put them (in Windows/System, I believe) and why I need that Setup1 is beyond me. I installed Jasper using the main setup program, cannot do anything with Setup1 because I am getting the message 'invalid line parameters' when trying to run that setup.

So what is wrong with that?

I know you get a lot of flack from some people on the site but I wanted to let you know that you've done some good work with this software (pat on the back and an atta boy).

By no means was I attempting to critique alphie. I think his code is great. (yes I looked at it and even placed an order). I also think he should put it under our freelance tools and when it goes into production have a paypal link for donations.

I'm just saying hot keys are tough to beat.

To answer the question: if you're trading more than 5 stocks, you can use the basket function.

Nevertheless, one of the ideas behind opening up the API's is for people like Alphie to develop interfaces to IB system to customize trading systems for all types of users.

Hiring alphie: the salary/package for our programmers is probably alot higher than the majority of people make trading. I've passed other peoples CV's along and if requested, I'd do the same for him.
 
wally doggone it, that's the problem. I mentioned it to aphie today because another member had the same problem.

Jasper won't run on Windows 98 or 98SE.

I know, everything else works just fine with 98 and it was only because I bought a new computer that I have XP now. Heck, if it weren't for multi-monitors, I would probably still have 95.

Wait a minute -- you have installed it on a Windows 98 machine? You have gotten through half the problem if it installs on a Windows 98 O/S. I designed it to run with Windows 2000 and XP, but here are some things you may want to check.

First, do a scan on your computer and search for a file called "Tws.ocx." There are many versions of this file and the one currently being used by my program is the October 8'th version.

Are you clicking the little status light near the top to request a connection to IB? The program will not automatically connect to IB unless you ask it to do so. There are still a lot of "design functionality" issues I need to clean up, but if you click the status like at the top with the name "Broker" underneath it, it should send a requestion to IB.

If IB is not getting the request, make sure it is set up to accept Active-X connections. Go under options and verify this is the case.

If you have managed to install it, it is only a matter of getting the "pipe" between TWS and Jasper to open so they can exchange data between each other.

Let me know how this works.

(Bracket Trader uses an ActiveX connection to IB as well. I am not sure what Autotrader uses. I prefer ActiveX because it is an event-driven code and DDE has specific issues that don't mesh well with my program since I already have to use a timer to query eSignal's quote system since DDE is not an event driven code)
 
Since I also run '98 and couldn't install jasper even with some very good tutelage (thanks again), I'm very curious to see if this works... A map. I need a map. SOMEBODY GET ME A FREAKING MAP!

If Wally could get it to install on his Windows 98, then apparently I was mistaken and the install program does work on Windows 98.

If you are doubling clicking setup.exe and it is bringing up wordpad, something is very amiss. Have you had trouble loading other programs (setup.exe's?)

Tell me exactly what happens after you double click the "setup.exe"

A word to everyone:

*ALWAYS* confirm within TWS that you are flat before shutting down. Check to make sure you have no pending orders. Please keep in mind that Jasper is meant to supplement TWS and not replace it.

What TWS says should always supercede what Jasper says, or any other program that links to TWS.

I just wanted to reinforce that. It is crucial that you get into the habit of confirming what is taking place within TWS and confirming that you are flat before closing up for the day.
