I notice that volatility of GC, NG, CL, etc., have reduced greatly compared to few years ago. In your opinion, how much is due to program trading ? Have the good old days gone forever ?

Well, when price comes down and not dropping like a rock, they get more stable, although Crude took off pretty fun today and ES was quick profits from FOMC, so still volatility at times.
And when prices one day really come down to like ten year lows, if you don't know how to trade chop, you be losing. And why so many lost after 2008/2009 as volatility dried up.
Yes, good old days have left. Just ask the guys who use to be in the pits.
Are these mostly coming from not looking at the P&L?

I didn’t mean to imply by the exercise in trade management over the weekend that J’s 15 tick target wasn’t …good. The exercise was intended more to free up emotions from all the energy that goes into that exact place the entry lands at.
15 ticks makes a lot of sense. Base hits.
Still, another place that exercise might be helpful is when we start trading multiple lots and taking some off at 15 ticks, and letting some ride. But that is another whole ball of wax.

No, so far not looking at PnL is not really impacting me. The set ups were my favorite PB entries and not moving my target requires less thinking. Combined that's easy and stress free.
Well, we are all different... you arrived at easy and stress free in the way that works for you. Which is cool.
Not too stress free today. Started off fine then made a mistake exiting too soon. Held on to the irritation as it went to target. That threw me off and I should have taken a break but didn't. Blah, blah, blah.. We know how this ends. So, regrets today. Didn't look at PnL
I felt frustrated during the session. looking at my trades now I see some mistakes but I'm also doing a lot right. My level of frustration during the session was disproportionate to what's happening, IMO. I needed to let go and relax more. Take a break and enjoy it more. Some days I do that and some days not.
Just a couple weeks ago my account was making new equity highs for the year. Since then struggling. Maybe there's a correlation.
I overthink my progress and expectations. I need to let go and just trade. Be the rat/monkey. Nothing new here.

Yes, those and Tf. Rarely some others.
We each have to work our own way out i guess. Somewhere there is a tipping point and things start to cascade into performing the way we want to be as a trader.

Irritation and frustration.
Don't know if it fits you at all,
but in addition to ass whopping,
Forgiveness is something I've thought about as a trader at times.
I heard somewhere that forgiveness doesn't go to completion until you give up the hope of being again the person you were before experiencing... whatever... being mugged, raped, backing your car over your child's leg, going bankrupt... or trading incorrectly, making a mistake... loss of innocence. Sometimes before moving on one has to accept the loss of innocence, among other losses. Just a thought. Traders have to go further than many...
