Japanese daytrading for foreigners

Some years ago I lived in Japan and looked for brokers who allowed me to do short-selling of stock. Both IB Japan and a local broker (I forgot the name) didn't allow me to do that.

Does kabu.com allow short-selling of stock for residents in Japan? If so, what do they charge for the stock you borrow for short-selling a stock? For example a stock which has a large daily trade volume?

By the way most front ends of any Japanese broker are super simplistic and outright naive. Many are still web-based. IT skills are sorely lacking in Japan which is reflected on every corporate website in Japan. Go to the shinsei bank account website. You feel you arrived in the year 2000. Not one Japanese bank for example allows online wire transfers, at least last time I checked.

Your claim about no issues with liquidity are outright wrong. Anything beyond the top 100 names in section1 you will deal with liquidity issues. And shorting Japanese names? Good luck. Even when you get to locate inventory you are fighting uphill with the myriad of short sell restrictions.

I did a quick check of their website but could not find a clear answer whether short-selling is allowed or not. The page with overview of commissions does not list a cost of shorting a stock. Also, looking for the Japanese term for short-selling (karauri, 空売り) did not give relevant results.

Kabu.com has thousands of stocks available to short. The interest rate for all brokers here varies between 2 and 3 %.

Well the 101st stock traded 5,000,000 shares on Friday. Even the 1000th volume leader traded 220,000 shares. Hardly a liquidity problem, unless your name is Warren.

For margin trading in Japan, one broker that would be better that Kabu.com is SMBCNikko.
The commission is zero and they offer all stocks that are available from JSF.

Your question and statement are word for word the same as those made by HobbyTrading and Zzzz1, and both were edited by a moderator. Something's strange here.

Should end this (or any) discussion on japanese stock trading, as most of the people making statements don't seem to be knowledageable about the japanese market to begin with s.t. their claims are only based on general perceptions
