James Comey, Hero Or Zero?

The Director of the FBI had an unprecedented role in this election, one that I sincerely hope is not repeated ever. For those who have been in a coma the last six months, Comey staged a bizarre press conference in July to state that the FBI would not be referring criminal charges to the Justice Department over the Clinton email scandal, even though Clinton's conduct was exceedingly careless. The media and Clinton supporters heaved a sigh of relief and declared the matter officially closed.

Then ten days before the election, Comey sent a letter to congress informing them that a cache of emails had been uncovered that required reopening the inquiry. It quickly became apparent that the emails were located on a computer shared by longtime Hillary aide Huma Abedin and her husband, the disgraced Anthony Weiner. Trump supporters exalted, feeling there was justice in this world after all. Then Sunday Comey pulled the rug out again, saying in effect that nothing new had turned up so forget it.

I think it is fair to say he determined the outcome of the election. A criminal referral and subsequent resignation by Comey if no charges were brought would have been the end of Hillary's campaign. Instead, we got this unseemly fence straddling, where he criticized her severely but claimed nothing could be done.

Then the Weiner bombshell, which probably cost her the election. There is a limit to what people can tolerate, and she had exceeded it. The subsequent "never mind" was too little too late and couldn't erase the image of the creepy Weiner sexting teen girls and cruising porn sites on a computer that carried hundred of thousands of State Department emails.

So other than being Ken Starr's revenge, what are we to make of Comey? Should he stay or should he go? And if he stays, will there be trouble? If he goes, it may be double.

He's the first one out the door and he may even depart before Trump is sworn in to avoid the public firing.

Comey needs to go. He blew this from the jump and has proven himself unable to make the right decisions in every single aspect of this case, start to finish.

IMO his role in the outcome is overestimated. What shifted the balance was the constant assault of the Clinton camp on the self-esteem of Trump voters , labeling them as despicable, lesser human beings. This drove the independent voters to Trump. Given today's media coverage it doesn't sink in with the left that this tactic is obsolete.

and another clash songs comes to mind as well.

But you don't understand my point of view
I suppose there's nothing I can do

Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way

Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way

You must explain why this must be
Did you lie when you spoke to me?

Did you stand by me
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way

I'm not sure it was totally a tactic. Sure, they wanted to delegitimize support for Trump, but they actually do feel this way, they only talk to other people who feel that way too and they just assume it is so obvious and virtuous that no one could object.

And now they must slowly realize that 50% of the people really don't like them.
