It's official, Walmart just tossed away $3.3 billion to buy jet.com

They would have done better buying shares of competitor groceries. Except for Southwest, does any of them make profit? Anyone still remember the outfits the stewardesses wore in the 80s?

Long ago I worked second job part time at airport renting cars for Dollar Rental for Christmas money, but I loved watching the girls walk by, highlight of working there....
Competitor groceries except for Southwest??? What is going on?

Southwest is the only one to make consistent profit...Spirit has the highest revenue per passenger or something but they're roiling in cash with low gas prices and those fee's they've tacked on in the past year. As for stewardesses, I was in NYC, for work, at the end of June, and flew out of JFK, and let me tell you those U.A.E. stewardesses still dress like that and put the US one's to shame. We're just an old and obese bunch!haha This pilot, was like that scene out of "Catch Me if You Can", where DiCaprio was walking with them in a group.

WTF are you babbling about?

I am going to assume that they spent the money to buy the system they were using and not the company. They must have seen something in their e-commerce business plan or software that they thought was unique and determined that it was cheaper to buy the company than reinvent the wheel and potentially worry about patent infringement.

WM has revenues of 500BN a year. 3.3 BN is a lot of money, but not to WM if you think of all the stores they have around the world.

Anyhow, I am assuming that is why they did it.

Quite possibly. In any case, I'll keep an eye on this news. I wonder whether it will bring some good earnings.

Funny how Walmart a company in retail business for decades can't develop their own system for even a few hundred million, but go out and purchase a worthless no making money 1 year old company for $3 billion dollars...

The only ones that made out in this deal are Goldman Sachs and the other investors in this company...they are laughing all the way to the bank....only a fool would touch that company...

I tried it.
Yes they suck.
But there is no trade here as far as I can see. Sorry.
Jet.com is private - can't trade it.
OK WMT is smart or dumb. Maybe they will use this hype to issue stock when WMT rallies. Or maybe they just lost $3bn or 1% of their market cap. I am not buying but not shorting it. Why short for 1%? They pay 3% dividend, and so if you are a few months early, they already made that 1%.
There are far better shorts of companies that have no earnings and will get into bankruptcy.

If you just like to point out who are fools, but not trades, you are no better than NineEnder.
