Agree. That's what makes any real evaluation of a candidate's position on issues extremely difficult. Behind the stuff that they read off the teleprompter, there's a few PhDs and marketing people writing furiously and then correcting, regrouping and writing again.
Why should we believe ANY promise at this point? They don't have to make them good later. Other than their basic strategy (eg, Obama plans to raise taxes, a lot) what's the use of us trying to think through whether this number matches that number, and any details about what he says that he'll do after he gets elected? We all know that the situation then will be different, and they'll come up with all sorts of excuses why this or that were not doable any more. I mean, everything will be new come next January 20th - not to forget that these folks are all professional liars, right?
The only thing we have to go on is their track record, especially where it demonstrates what they are made of, their character.
For example, McCain endured his ordeal in Vietnam with distinction, served his country well, made us all proud. He's an honest broker of power, an independent minded person who makes his own decisions, has vast experience to draw from, and he's not afraid to work with whoever can help. That's clear, he's proven it during his many years of service to this nation.
On the other hand, Obama stayed an active member of that anti-American, racist church for 20 years, associated himself with criminals and terrorists all through his career for his own benefit, is being pushed down our throat by the liberal media for their own purposes, and is a great teleprompter reader, but, otherwise, almost totally inexperienced for the job. That too is clear.
No comparison so far as I am concerned.
Thanks for that. I was going to say to the Repubs here to keep it in perspective. All she did was read a speech written by someone else. Let's wait for the debates to see what's what.
No need to wait for the debates....unless you want candidates to talk about the solutions to the real problems we have.

I know there is a problem when people fawn over any politician, and the Obamamania had a lifespan before it settled down to a more reality based evaluation of Obama.
Same will happen with Palin.
We will see the pig without the lipstick soon enough, and that's when the real partisanship comes through clear as a bell, in blind defense of obvious and troubling flaws of a candidate.
Quite humorous watching the repubs talk about change, given they supported the nightmare of Bush for nearly 8 years...and now claim to be the ones to have the vision of the future?
How can people who sat in the dark with Bush now claim to see the light?

Obama's and Biden's speeches were written by their campaign speech writers. McCain had proposed town hall meetings with Obama where voters could ask the candidates questions. Of course Obama declined, so we will have to wait for the three national debates.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.
Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.
Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.
Sarah Palin. Winner.

Barack Obama is usually the candidate who begs his staff to let him take one more question at every event, but this week he hasn't been a man to linger. Even though his public schedule was relatively light, behind the scenes he was racing his own internal clock to finish what is the most important speech of his career.
years ago Obama spent months writing the convention speech that would catapult him onto the national stage. Even though he was busy with his day job in the Illinois State Senate and was running for the U.S. Senate, Obama would find time to scribble thoughts, often sneaking off the State Senate floor to the men's room to jot down ideas, or writing in the car as he campaigned across southern Illinois. It took him months to gather all those fleeting ideas and craft his acclaimed keynote speech.
This time around, Obama has been a tad busier and hasn't had the luxury of time. "The difference here is, you know, he's got a few other things going," Obama's top strategist David Axelrod told reporters Wednesday on Obama's flight into Denver. "It's hard to find the quality time to do this." The first draft wasn't finished until last week, and as of Wednesday his staff couldn't say how long the speech was running or when it might be finished. The looming deadline has led to a lot of late nights and bleary-eyed mornings for Obama, who instead of practicing delivery has been focused on the writing, even during his walk-through of Invesco Field Wednesday night.

What a man. We are so lucky. He had time to craft his speech whle he was busy saving the planet, lowering the oceans and bringing us all together?
Are people really naive enough to believe this stuff? He is the most packaged candidate in history.
