I don't think it's productive to debate whether we are "responsible" or whether the offense remotely justified the reprisal. What we have to accept is that this is reality. Muslims are prepared to kill you for certain offenses.

Liberals have grown complacent in a world in which they can insult the fundamental values of others without any consequences. That world no longer exists. Offend muslims and you stand a very real chance of getting killed.

Deciding a policy response is tricky, as we can see from the tortured statements of everyone from the Pope to political leaders. The obvious and honest response, to recognize that muslims do not mix well into western democracies, is unacceptable to political elites, although it has growing support among the citizens of various countries.

How 'bout before killing any more of them or seeking any concessions we just get the fuck out of there and let them mind their own business? If and when the West ever accepts the possibility that they are not the ultimate answer to every problem everywhere in the world, perhaps at least some of the killing will stop.

Maybe you better ask all the hundreds of thousands of them that moved to France, England, all other western countries and then not only flatly refuse to assimilate into that western culture in any way, shape or form, they DEMAND that country change to meet their way of thinking...OR ELSE. Might want to ask a few million Mexicans the same question while you're at it.

Christians would be smart to find the similarities with Islam and team up to clean up neighborhoods, get the Federal Government back down to the size the founders intended, get the crooks out of politics, etc. They share the Old Testament, can't tell me they can't find a zillion things they agree on and they could bring the Jews into the discussion too. United people stand and divided they fall.

As for moving into a country and demanding that that country change to meet a particular way of thinking, the West has been pretty aggressive in that regard as well. See Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Germany, Viet Nam, Colombia, Africa, etc etc etc

As for "assimilation", I'm sure you've heard of Chinatowns, Little Italys, and all the other neighborhoods in which various cultures gather together for reasons of their own. Should they all be "cleansed"?
