My retired parents have this "financial advisor" who is nothing more than a bank employee pushing a menu of mutual funds. He has had them invested in some standard large cap funds over the years and they have done pretty well by most standards.
Me, I consider myself a professional trader/investor who does vastly more sophisticated strategies than what my parents are exposed to, but some years I have lagged them. This leads to gloating on their part, which really gets under my skin and makes me question my complex trading framework. They do not understand sharpe ratios, market neutrality, or hedging.
Going forward I plan to make an effort to avoid this topic altogether and just ignore any performance related questions that pop up. If something is causing you stress, just avoid it!
