it really is game over, science fiction becomes fact

Quote from gottatrade:

I don't see any respect for government or institutions in this country. Just read the blogs. Apparently it will take greater pain than we feel now in order for the people to take ownership of their government, but if and when they do respect should return, ya think? I think real campaign finance reform is the starting point for progress, but people will have to demand it.

This is wrong. Campaign finance reform is nothing but a curb on free speech. The only means to fixing the problems is *term limits*.

Nothing comes close to disincentivizing career politicians than term limits.

Quote from Debaser82:

A major collapse is clearly unavoidable.

The only unknown is the timefrime which could be 5, 10 or 30 years and when it happens it doesnt has to mean Mad Max is the destiny for all of our children and their children.

Sure, living standards will take a hit and pain will be felt widespread but it is the unwillingness of the gatekeepers to allow the system to be cleaned out which is responsible for the size of the crash ahead so the sooner the better would probably be best for most people.

The US enjoyed a civil war and about a dozen of depressions 2 centuries ago but that didnt stop it from becoming one of the biggest global powerhouses in history.

People always seem to think booms can last forever and when the bust and the doom comes they seem to think that will last forever.

Neither of them do.

Quote from xiaodre:

People who have kids, and care about those kids, never ever have this outlook.

Even if they are planning for an asteroid, Bruce Willis Armeggedon scenario, which may seem nutty and overwhelming, they never give up.

And that's a big part of the population of the world you and your point of view argue against...

I'm not sure which side of this debate you're taking, you wrote this in a way that can be interpreted from either vantage point. I know plenty of parents who think we're headed for a collapse of currency and the economy. They aren't throwing in the towel, but they're not Pollyannas either.

Quote from mikasa:

I had a talk with my old economics professor from way back, (7 years back). He is one of those professors that stand out in a good way and students tend to remember him.

He told me that there is going to be "game over". He explains that the behavior and fiscal policy of not just US government but others as well can only point to something happening either natural or man made that's about to happen.

And so the complete ignorance of economic laws is accepted because it won't matter.
No one in human history was able to print their way into prosperity and everyone knows it. So they are doing it because they know something is coming.

Well these guys in Waco, TX are building up some very interesting aircraft recently.......

Just don't try and go over to ask them what they are getting ready for (and it has nothing to do with asteroids).

Quote from Scataphagos:

That's enough to get onto my ignore list, Comrade, as you obviously have no clue.
you see people like you, I mean antiobama crowd, expect miracles from the country that produces nothing but paper and ink to print money, and yes you need to tax the rich, to finance the wars and healthcare.

Unfortunately, Congress and the Senate won't pass a law limiting their own power. The only way term limits will happen is if the people call for a constitutional amendment from the grass roots.

There was a story that was linked on Drudge in November saying that Obama was going to announce to the nation that intergalactic aliens were real and were in contact with the government. He was supposed to make this announcement before the end of 2009. The source claimed to have contacts in various areas of the government that substantiated the story.

We all know how Obama has a problem making decisions of magnitued so maybe such an annoucement is still coming. Maybe at the state of the union speech.
