I was actually thinking they should use amplified, low frequency sound waves. Those would emanate from any opening, be it a vent or an entrance.

Good idea. Maybe, tear gas dropped thru the vents will work too. It will sting but, not kill. Should make the rats scamper to avoid it. Only drawback is the hostages might be affected by it. Hamas has killed some of the hostages, no doubt to blame Israel for the bombings and the Israeli soldiers going into the tunnels to fight Hamas.
