BTW, the ethanol thing is a thermodynamic canard as it's done in the US.
So, for argument purposes, let's say China is placated. They've got the Olympics anyway. How does that change the overall scenario. There are lots of other moving parts.
Absolutely right about ethanol. I think the important message is that the U.S. will make ethanol *regardless* of the inefficiency because it is feasible and represents a way to distribute energy intended for transportation utilizing the existing gasoline distribution system.
The U.S. will do it because it will work despite the physics and despite the moral implications. We have to get to work and its a big place. We aren't going to migrate back to the cities, we are going to use our national resources to ensure our lifestyles.
So, South Korea doesn't have to worry about U.S. beef imports for long. Some day they won't be able to get any.
Anyway, I'm hoping the U.S. can keep Israel on its chain this summer. I doubt Israel would do anything unless they were under real threat.
Its one thing to enrich fuel, quite another to produce a fissile weapon.
Its one thing to produce a fissile weapon, quite another to put it on a ballistic missile.
Israel usually gets their intelligence correct so hopefully they won't attack unless there is some imminent threat.
