Lets get real. The US single-handily took out Iraq not once, but TWICE in about 72 hours. That's an industrialized country, with the 3rd largest oil reserves in the world, what was then the 4th largest standing Army in the world? 3 DAYS.
ISIS controls a few oil wells and an area loosely the size of Georgia. America could wipe these assholes from the planet in less then 24 hours. But they don't. Why? I argue the case is simple: America needs an enemy. America needs an Emmanual Goldstein. ISIS is kept alive to remind Americans to be fearful, that terrorism is 'real', and that the sprawling national security State built since 911 is justified. Real simple.
