I love Orwell as a paradoxical genius. He was a socialist (in ideals) BUT he also knew human nature and history too well. He then spent all his life writing and warning about the downside of socialism.
But lets change the subject a little. Ducha is soul in Russian (I used to have a Russian girlfriend.) She always told me that she liked me as I had a soul, but many in America lack that....
We have made a promise to Russia and Ukraine and we broke our word! TWICE! We (I mean the US Gov.) We told Ukraine to remove all Nukes and we shall defend them and the Russians to allow the breakup of SU (if Nato keeps its nose out).
We broke both promises, which is the real news we should be talking about! This is why Putin is pissed....

I remember the SU very well, you are however fail to follow the SEQUENCE of things. Budapest agreement was first broken by the West, with a putsch of a ELECTED pro-Russian (scumbag). So, now we have a pro-western scumbag stealing any aid coming to that poor country. And as much as SU loved to expand by force, similarly the US loves to meddle in crap we have no business, ie. CIA (or whatever other myriads of spook outfit). Do you think the US is an angel in this? We have not had a major foreign policy success since WWII. We are making the world unsafer! N.Korea will have 50 Nukes, and we are worried about Iran, now. How fucking stupid is that! Israel should worry, but I am in CA I don't fing care. If you want to claim that the West overthrew the government, you can do so but there is no proof of that. Also, no western country INVADED Ukrainian territory - Russia brutally invaded Crimea. There was actually a resistance of Tatars but they disappeared in the night never to be seen (Putin is a KGB man, never forgot the old tricks).

I agree with the rest pretty much, US is (sadly) making the world a more dangerous place. The whole Iranian thing is overblown because the Israeli right-wingers have too much power in US. If Israel can have nukes (they do), so should Iran.

Socialism has not failed because it has never been abandoned. Every economy in the world is a mix of socialism and capitalism (some with a bit of feudalism hanging on).

Actually there is and has been a substantial resurgence of feudalism. But most of the rank-and-file don't recognize that, perhaps largely because they don't even know what it is.
