Is Trading Just Guessing?

Quote from Aas:

I do not have the stock market % of capital per month traded by the retail section and if I did I think it would be of no real significance.
If this be so then the cannon fodder analogy is unfounded in the general scheme.
To be manipulated you must be of a certain mindset.
To not allow yourself to be manipulated you must also be of a different mindset.
Either way you still have to take a guess but the outcome will of course depend on what mindset you were in when you placed the trade.

"If this be true then what is more important, your mindset or your guessing"

OK, no more pissing about, the theme is familiar, so get to the point please.

Quote from J Ski:

Buying stock is not gambling like betting on a horse.
$100 bet on "glue factory" and he loses. $100 lost.
$100 bet on stock, stock goes down a little you close out
the trade, you have some of the money left.

Betting $100 on Glue Factory and he loses = $100 loss
Betting on a stock with a $100 stop loss = $100 lost.

What's the difference?

Betting on Frankel, instead of Glue Factory, not a guess, but not particularly profitable.

when you bet on a horse you expect it to win, show or place

when you invest in a stock you expect it to appreciate in price

see the difference?

No

Quote from oldtime:

perhaps a career as a commission only stockbroker is not for you

Huh?

Here's the scenario:

1. You bet $100 on a horse at 2/1
2. You trade 1 ES with 2pt stop and 4pt target.

So enlighten me: what's the difference?

what do you think you are more likely to get away with?

telling your wife you are going to the "office"

or telling her you are going to the track

The point is very clear if you care to read what is written and answer what is asked?

"Why are most people unable to answer a simple question when asked"

Perhaps most people don't see the purpose behind the question.

For myself though - deja vu.

So I'll not play the game, but it will be interesting to see if anyone else does.
