I'm in Australia and don't trade US mkt, I had assumed indexes and major stocks may have moved in tandem or close enough to make it difficult to beat.

Some stocks like Amazon, Apple, etc are heavy weighted in the indexes, they move according to the indexes and if it is cause and effect, it is still enough of a leading indicator watching the index panels above to see how they will come up minute by minute, etc.

So were the indexes/vix etc diverging, what would you do then because they are not always correlated 100%?
The Vix ideally should be showing an increase while the index is showing a decrease. And vice versa.

Sometimes this isn't what you see and I think it is mostly explained by institutional money or events which trigger a move in the stock but not a counter move in the Vix. It does help you analyze the market a bit though.

Yes, I'm aware of that, I meant diverging from norm, eg SPX rising, DJ falling, or VIX rising while indexes rising, that sort of thing.

Sorry, I don't understand what you are asking here and why then. These are the indexes I watch I sent to you in the screen shot, so you have me quite confused.. lol

It's really pretty simple, if the NDX has its right edge moving up, the candle coming up on the 1 min chart for Apple will 90% be coming up green or going from red to green. If the Vix is going down.. all the better. It's as simple as that.
