Not even close to 2008 or 1987. The whole period from 1997 until 2003 had heightened volatility comparable to what we're seeing these last couple of weeks.

asia was not in the mix...….today you have all of asia participating.... more traders mean less volatility......
This is pretty standard movement so far. Just larger charts at play. If you have an quantifiable edge you use for trading / intra-day trading just pull up larger charts and you'll see the same crap just now we have a wider ATR.
Granted intra-day price action can be annoying on your longs since price fades so fast due to panic selling, but other than that it's just the larger charts finally went to more bearish after all this time.
