Taxes are heavy but one gets also lots of benefits, a whole lot, although I would rather have my money then give it away like that. Remember Health care is included in the tax calculation
As far as standard of living, I have lived on both sides of the ocean and I would beg to differ here. Standard of living I find in Europe is very very high, and also much more evenly distributed. I would say the average citizen standard of living here is at leas the same as in the US. At least in the northern countries, France, England , Germany Holland ,Belgium etc, with a very nice edge given to the Scandinavian countries.
About taxes, on small thing I realized, in calculating the overall tax, Health Care is included in there, so if we remove that it drops the taxes level , at least in Germany by at least 19% so from 43% we are down to 24% tax.
Can you do me a favor, trying to compare taxes honestly , what would the tax rate be in the US if you would add the health insurance in the packet? I really am curious.
See us as traders we can pretty much pack our computer and pick our living place to out advantage

Politicians in Europe keep on piping this "health included tune" in peoples ears. This sounds great till you need any care. You will have to pay for it. If not, read the newspapers of "Great" Brittain. I could go on with more stories, but I did this elsewhere.
The great model in some sense was wat existed in the Workers and Peasants' State, now lost for some 10 years ago. They had basically three types of health services: (1) for party members and police; (2) for soldiers; (3) for workers and peasants. (By the way, ever read Animal Farm by Orwell?). Let me haste to add that luckily in your "all inclusive" countries, they haven't attained this ultimate state yet.
Keep dreaming about your 15% flat rate. The specialized services know how to deal with this.

I am in Germany and here the heath care is as described. Everything is nearly free for all. England is a fiasco.
Dreaming about 15% not really it is there, as a trader and being self employed my taxes are quite low, at least 20% less then the employed people, of course I have to by my own private insurance and that even is a bit cheaper the the insurance that is provided by the gov.
Once again I'd like to request that you keep this thread on topic. In case you forget, this thread was started by someone looking to hook up with like minded traders in France, nothing more. If you want to start a political thread about France and/or Europe v's USA etc...then please feel free to do so in the Chit Chat forum.
It's not about democracy, it's about courtesy. Everybody who trades speaks English so I don't see why you make long posts in French, it's just annoying and will only serve to convey the idea that French are arrogant and self centered. I am sure everybody here loves French and many can read it but it's a US forum besides French is worthless to talk trading. And making derogatory comments sure doesn't help either.
For those interested in France as a residence I will refer them to the thread I started a few months ago. Do a search on " living in France" . I gathered quite a bit of info and came to the conclusion that for a professional trader living in France is pure folly due to the insane tax burden . It is the same in most continental EU countries I am afraid. America still remains the freeer nation.
