I was thinking more of the recent revelations, from GOP insiders, that "whatever Obama proposes we have to be against it." Apparently that attitude was crystallizing before he was even sworn in.

See table 6 on page 38 for the historical data. I had seen 6 to 1, but the table makes it look like 4 to 1 has been the average.

Why would we end up like Yugoslavia? The issues there were related to ethnicity and religion, neither of which are at issue here in the US, where the issues are related to political ideology.

So, your objection is weak and what happened in Yugoslavia is irrelevant.
