is there any way to lock in a profit when u have a spread trade

if a spread trade is in the money is there any way of locking in the profit to close the position on expiration day? how long can u hold on expiration day without worrying about the written option being assigned? can agricultured options be assigned . what if u dont have the money?

One of those tedious questions you need to answer BEFORE you put on the spread trade. Kind of a hassle that way ...

In any event, the answer will be somewhat dependent on the exact spread one is considering. A generic answer will be all but worthless for a specific circumstance.
