Is the term "alleged" used only when the media feels like it?

I was listening to the news today and reporter quote....

"The protesters smashed windows over the senseless murder of
George Floyd"

Does anyone see the problem with this statement?

There have been a lot of reporting saying alleged but to be fair, no one denies it was a murder and it was senseless. Would it make you feel better if they all said alleged.

1. he is dead and he did not kill himself or die of natural causes, so definitely murder of some form
2. He was not resisting arrest, carring a deadly weapon, or threatening anyone with imminent harm so I think we could say his death was senseless as it made no sense under the circumstances.

Based on the above, it would seem accurate to report this is a senseless murder and there is nothing to be alleged.
 
will you deny the rioters would use the killing as reasoning for their mischief? Or that the Rodney King riots happened as a response over the cops' acquittal?
