Is technical analysis getting the recognition it deserves in university studies?

Quote from ProfLogic:

Those that are open to the possibility of a difference between the two, or even that a CONSISTENT TA can exist, can see the potential of melding fundamental Analysis to Technical Analysis. FA being the foundation of the decision making process and TA being the trigger for entering and exiting the trades.

I think thats spot on. Except I would add - fundamentals contribute to hold period and more importantly, position sizing.

Of course, calling market turns with fundamentals is foolhardy. Better to let fundamentals influence the above only when confirmed trend is in place.

To answer the OP.

And I don't intend to be rude - but who cares?

Certain subsets of TA will work regardless of academic recognition, or not.

Doesn't matter to me.

i've considered teaching a course in the stock market at a local university in a few years. i have contacts, enough education, and obviously real world experience.

most of my course would NOT be on fundamentals. but it would be a combination of technical analysis and psychology.

i've found that both parts are necessary to be successful.

I wouldn't be surprise if universities are offering 4 year college degrees in TA and post graduate degrees in the field of TA.

Mark

The essential ingredients of TA can be learned in less than a month. I could see universities offering a laboratory 4 year degree in practical application though.

TA has been thoroughly tested by many, and almost always it is shown as having little to no value.

TA is mostly used by believers, rather than good traders.

Ridiculous

ps. perhaps you can answer how many time frames in one direction increases the odds of the next time frame being in the same direction or opposite direction. is this not what TA proports to do at the most basic level??

No. --not even close.

:)

Quote from marketsurfer:

thank you for your kind response. however, if TA does in fact, increase the odds--this could be easily shown using basic statistical tests--

I would say that my account performance over a very long period of time would be a very good statistical test.

TA should be taught in fiction class. Unproven myths and methodologies do not deserve to be ballyhooed when they remain in the world of leprechauns, pixies and unicorns.

unbelievably ridiculous.
