Is Paulson competant?

Quote from oktiri:

what do you want him to do ?
he didn't create the mess, he's doing his best. in an ideal world, The gov should have stayed out of this and let the whole thing explode, Dow would have reached 4500 in two days...and we would have started creeping back from the hole.
Now, we have to watch this thing die slooooooowly

You are correct, but don't feel too bad for him . He has highly paying job waiting for him at the firm he steered billions to .

That's right. He didn't create this mess. I guess he was taking a completely different route during his tenure as CEO for GS.

Paulson like George W Bush will be vindicated in a decade. His efforts to fix the supposed crisis have been exemplary by working with congress to infuse liquidity. FDR faced a lot of detractors in his time, but now he's highly reveared. We must give Paulson time for this to work instead of jumping to comclusions.

Ya gotta luv those 10 year predictions, that way you can be wrong for the next nine, and still hold out for vindication...

If he chose to save Lehman Brothers the cost would be probably much lower than trying to fix all the aftermath.
