The " luckiest " people I have ever met I can say were almost always the smartest people.

Life is 90 % what you make of it, 10 % random. Research and Study I posted in first post of thread highlights it well in my opinion. It comes down to how you view things, that's why politicians spin everything positive, bad news or not, it's positively spinned to make it seem better then it is, and according to study and life experiences, I would agree with it

Besides, what does the concept of "luck" have to do with trading... other than your being on a position and a new fundamental development from out-of-the-blue "hits you"?

Luck is a concept for gambling. That is... "prevailing in spite of the odds being fixed, against you and there is no way you can put them in your favor."

Experiencing "good fortune in the markets"... because you did your work and were properly disciplined... has nothing to do with luck.

I told an old timer REALTOR friend i was thinking about buying a certain lake house on the same lake he lived on.He said ''that house would be a gamble dont do it.'' [I thought to myself business is not gambling] ;so i asked him '' WHY NOT??'' Its been moved; a good way to goof up a home for good. I almost bought it anyway, i have fixed up many homes.

I got one ''free'' lake vacation once + they give you $50 to hear a sales pitch.BUT they were so hi pressure they made money i'm sure, overall.LOL But they tend to overprice coffee = food so skipped their food.

I could have easliy lost money on VALE dam braking; but i dont believe in bad luck, or bad liquid stock like VALE or GE, if they dont go up but a little. BUT shorts covered so much/made so much on GE; if the sellers sell out, trash flies UP LOL

Firstly, this test was really testing reading comprehension. It should be no surprise that how something is framed in text, greatly affects people's comprehension and interpretations. Ie. random text will be incomprehensible. Encrypted text may be unintelligible ornot. While short and clear text may provide the clearest communication. Secondly, the word "luck" itself has no clear-cut scientific or objective definition. Although, generally understood as unexpected and unlikely good fortune befalling someone, either through pure chance, tough efforts or against overwhelming odds.

"Luck" is generally underestimated in two big ways:

1. Those who may be regarded favoured of good luck, generally underestimate their own good fortunes, missing out on gratefulness of life. Instead envying those with even more than themselves.
   
2. Reports of luck are generally biased by stories of big fortune, while efforts, costs, risks and damages goes largely unreported, ignored and unappreciated. Thus feeding myths about how easy it is for the majority to "beat the odds", and the real costs behind believing any story and dreams being upheld as unquestioned ideology.

I presented an extreme example to make it understandable to the mathematically challenged. of course there are none on ET. +plus from a mathematical expectancy you should make the bet in my example.

Depends on the person's utility function as to whether they should make the bet.
