Is it worth paying a visit to TradersExpo Vegas, being held at the US in November?

Quote from Gyles:

After having checked out the various speakers at the TradersExpo Vegas, have narrowed down my search to the following few, whom I would like to check out with:

  1. Oliver Velez
  2. Ken Calhoun
  3. Robert Deel
  4. Joe DiNapoli
  5. Adrienne Toghraie
  6. John Persons (I would like to visit a system development session, but am I do not know anything about him)
  7. Curtis Faith
  8. Todd Gordon

Noticed that Murray did a paid talk in the above meeting last year (2006), Murray Ruggiero at TradersExpo Las Vegas, but his name does not figure in the list this year.

Moreover, could you please advice as to whether it is worth staying at Mandalay bay for I have seen that the other hotels have better deals?

My response may not be on the mark for you since you were brief in stating any needs.

Those you listed are selling things. One example: Oliver harps on how to trade a 20 and 40 ma tracking in parallel. But he never gives one peep on how to find such situations as they develop. Lots of hype all the time as well.

Ruggerio and Persons can't help you with systems. not modelling, not development not debugging nor operating.

BUT if you want to code tons of stuff you can get up to spped very rapidly using some stuff that will be presented in a series of sessions each building upon the other. Go see Chris at Worden Bros and in particular their analytical support software.

Secondly wealthlab sessions are conducted by several fidelity people. try to Skip the quant stuff simply because none of the stuff ever happens during the year. The advanced session will draw some talent from the audience. There are a lot of super traders and programmers floating around.

The best ones are support people for guys you have never heard of. They will be on the stage last (as usual) but some of them are there for other reasons. All are accessable if you know who they are.

I could go on with this but it may be a waste of time.

trading live in vegas is a misnomer. See dates of conference.

The hottest trader will be on during the lunch trading period. he was pissed in San diego but I see they screwed him yet once again. John Netto is on Friday am Vegas time which is lunch time in east and Chicago.

Before this session there is a 6:00 am start for live trading with CME types. These guys are sleepy heads BUT the audience has some hotshots.

So go to 6:00am and then swing over to NETTO and then return to CME for debriefing.

The debriefing is where you FIND traders not on the stage. Listen to Q's. And catch up with some of these guys later.

The the three annual TE's, Vegas is tops San Diego the poorest and New york is cold and a lot of people talk fast there.

Vegas is relatively cheap.

I am coming over to the United States this November and would like to know whether I should attend the TradersExpo. Would it be useful for me to attend?

The site of the same is at Traders Expo : Las Vegas

Moreover, which talks or seminars should I attend at the TradersExpo Vegas?

Don't waste your money unless you want to play and have some great cuisine in Vegas. 99.99% of the crap peddled in these expos is not worth more than $.01 above the price of admission, which is free. And whatever you do, don't pay to go to any seminars by the talking heads or self proclaimed tour circuit gurus. These guys couldn't trade themselves out of a pay toilet in the Minnesota airport men's room.

I'm sure chickie could direct you to the trading zoo though - she's got no problem spamming for them here!

You should ask yourself what are they all doing at an expo ?

If they are as good as they say they are at trading then why do they need to sell information ?

This might help you see what they do best !
