The southern man knows their ancestors were beaten down and were forced to bend over and surrender...it's their legacy. This broken spirit mentality is passed from one generation to the next...which is one of the reasons they are so rebellious to this day...then knew they are the spawn of a failed rebellion...
That's why they try to change history at every chance they get, they replay the embedded generational memory in their consciousness and sub consciousness throughout their life...

Perhaps winning a war to escape a distant tyranny of centralized power only to be enslaved by another one 3000 miles closer and less than 100 yrs later is not missed by everyone.
