In the bigger picture, yes, I agree with Obama that we do need to do several things to improve our energy policy as a nation.
It should be clear to anyone with a brain that the unbridled greed of oil companies does not serve the real interests of America, the national security of America, nor the quality of life and safety of America.
Drilling off shore in a limited safe way is one of those necessary evils we have to employ with the longer range goal of eliminating the use of fossil fuels.
It is practical, and politically expedient as well.
If Obama is viewed as willing to compromise, and the goons are unwilling to compromise (the party of no) on having a goal to move toward renewable clean energy and away from the dependency on crude oil, the American people will see the light eventually that the party of no doesn't really care about what is best for America.
How any American doesn't put getting off the crude that comes from the middle east as a matter of national security, oil that finances terrorism is beyond crazy...
I say we do it all right now, with the shorter term goal of transitioning away from dependency on foreign oil first, then with the broader goal of getting off the addiction of oil.
I have no problem with heroin addicts transitioning away from heroin through the use of methadone, as long as they are working to the larger goal of recovery.
Obama's goal is recovery, the right wing's goal if funding from big oil for the next election...
The right refuses to even say the goal is to get off the crack...

Do you still support the idea, which you defended,. of drilling more oil to reduce our consumption of oil?
