Is it possible to manage trading with your real job

Quote from stevegee58:

I meant a *real* job where you're expected to do actual work. Unless you're some kind of genius your job performance will suffer and sooner or later you'll be fired.

This is why I end up staying at the office until 10 or 11pm - gotta make up for the work I didn't do during RTH. But now we're so busy that I end up staying even later - til 2 or 3am. I am near my breaking point.

Possible.

I have well paid, demanding job.

Position trade and swing trade currencies and indexes. No time to study stocks.

Profitable but not rich yet.

1 hour a day.

Use working to your advantage and increase bet sizes and go for rich and not income. This gets you further than someone relying on trading income.

I know swing trading can be a good option and I will try to plan about my future trading because I cannot leave it.

It is only a good option if you are psychologically geared towards it. Whatever you end up doing it needs to fit your risk tolerance.

I personally can not swing trade, wide SL is not for me. Take 4 or 5 big losses in a row, and it messes your mind up considerably.

I also feel the same and consecutive losses in swing trading will disturb me more. We have to wait for days and in the end if results are not good then it is a big problem.

I set up a paper account at ib to test this very question

the rules were I could only make a trade every 4 hours

I figured, if you had a real job you could trade once when you woke up

again before you showed up for work

once on your lunch break

and again when you got off work

the results were disastrous

I traded the same strategy I trade with real money

I have it set up so I can survive a doctor's appointment, or a trip to the grocery store, or a computer failure

but not everyday

you need to be there

just showing up every 4 hours doesn't cut it for me

especially in forex, where all the money is made or lost in less than five minutes

I was doing my trading and improving with each day but since when I got a real job, my trading has affected badly and I am not able to trade properly. Is it possible to manage trading with real job?

Sure, it could be possible, but your mileage will vary just as in trading. I would not necessarily blame your job for your trading performance, it could be something else as well.

Having a job can be a good thing when you are a trader. Or any additional source of income, so having a job could offer some financial stability and hence be good rather than bad.
