Is it just me or has the market been pretty dull for the past few weeks/sessions?

Many vacations this month before kids go back to school in Chicago and Northern states, and yet in West Texas kiddies started past Monday as temps only in low 90's during the day. After Labor day should slide under 90, this is our rainy season so humidity is high and normal is 15%.

Anticipate higher volatility in the future then. SPX seems to be slowly creeping up. Might need a quick retest down to 2100 - 2120.

The market's been really tight lately. Holding onto positions is not really an option atm.

Maybe I have not traded long enough, but have you seen this low of volatility before for ES?

I remember a few months back in early 2005 things were slow.

Also i read that there was a period in 1993 that was very low vol aswell.

There have been other times since i started watching the markets from 2000 but not sure about durations, most were just a few weeks,
this current period of low vol started after the brexit rally so is almost two months going now.

Markets could remain muted for more months, or could get volatile at anytime.
You never know which fear/uncertainty event will spook the markets next.

But these period of low vol probably mean the stock market will continue to grind higher over the next year,
so im not expecting crazy good trading markets.
There is no fear in the market.

You don't need to remember.

If you look at daily ranges, there's been several periods with an average 10 day range of 10 points give or take.

March/April 2010.

Late 2010/Early 2011.

February-April 2012.

August 2012.

Early 2013.

Summer 2014.

Volatility cycles.
