I know of those problems from some European Boards - on some of them you simply cannot discuss anymore, because everyone is posting commercial sites, his own site and so on ...
On the other hand, I would have never found this great board if I didn't read about it in a german board ... I think that's also a good way to make boards better, because you have some competition between sites.
So I personally do not have problems with posting sites if they fit into the thread and there is not opened a thread just to advertise or poste a site in a thread and it doesn't fit in the context at all.
