modern technology allows dogs to speak. why not ask you dog what he thinks , anything else is just conjecture.

I totally agree. Genital mutilation of baby boys (aka circumcising) also cannot be justifiedâ¦except to remove a tumor.
As to why people need pet fishes, birds, cats, and dogs totally bewilders me.

OK, I guess I'll post more details.
My wife & I have two male Shih Tzu.
I had the older one neutered before I started this thread, and he seems ok with it, as far as I can tell. He still likes to hump other dogs, both female & male (male on male dry humping is normal, right?). When we bought the dogs from a breeder, we actually had to agree to have them neutered when they reached the appropriate age. Stud rights cost extra or something.
Anyways, when I told my dad that we neutered one, with plans to do the other one, he was totally appalled. Whenever I mention the dogs, he berates me over neutering, so I started this thread to get more opinions. We still plan to neuter the younger one in a few weeks, even though I'm still not 100% morally ok with the idea. I just don't want him to knock up some slutty bitch.

One of my dogs, several years ago, was accused of just this sort of thing. The owner of the bitch and accuser wanted me to pay dog food pal-imony! After 30 years it is still an issue that is unresolved. That was before DNA typing and none of the pups resembled anyone we could identify.
The humping thing is a bother but nothing like peeing on your half drank pop can on a hot and dry day.
We now have 9 dogs, 5 males and 4 females, all highly trained and working everyday. We leave the males male to help with their aggressiveness and spay the females after a few batches of puppies because having puppies seems to really wear them down. Spaying the females doesn't seem to affect their aggression. At least the females don't pee on pop cans.

Your dogs have jobs? Do they daytrade? I tried training my Shih Tzu as CPA's, but they currently seem more interested in software coding and graphics design.

They're stock dogs. Border Collies. They daytrade work for food, lodging, love, attention and comradery. Their loses are getting kicked and coming home with very sore paws.
One female we thought we could encourage to "speak" give a little howl to communicate. She does it so well it has become a nuisance. When someone drops by and we are standing in a circle visiting, this dog sits in the place in the circle where someone could be standing and howls for her part of the conversation. It has become hilarious and somewhat of a bother because she won't shut up. (typical female )

to spay or neuter pets is a visit to your local animal shelter....and you don't even want to know how many have been put to sleep 
Just started attending a volunteer program with my son's school to help with a local humane society...breaks my heart everytime I go there...great education for the students, though...
