Is everyone in a fullblown panic because of coronavirus?

This thing can go three ways.
1. The body count increases dramatically in the next 2-4 weeks, a complete and total lockdown coast to coast begins, and people really freak at the idea of this lasting well into the summer or longer. Great Depression will look like a walk in the park if this happens.
2. The body count doesn't go up in any meaningful way in the next 2-4 weeks and the public begins to push back hard at all the quarantines and restrictions. Violence ensues in a big way.
3. We begin to learn something else is going on and real panic and/or revolution begins depending on whether this is some mass extinction event coming our way, or our government or some government shows it's hand for real.

Brave New World people, and that's no cock and bull story. It's about to get real. If not already, we're soon going to long for the days when we were bickering like school kids about silly shit. Whole world is about to get bitch slapped with a dose of what putting things into perspective is all about.
I hope not. :(

And how moronic, fearful, and greedy the average American is.

I wouldnt pin on being American. Humans have bullshittted themselves into thinking they were the masters of their our destiny. The only destiny that is promised is they will die. The asshole next to me thinks he will live forever because he jogs. Let me ask you something, when is the last time you saw a jogger smile? NEVER. Joggers will die with the rest of us. Most likely they will die it will have nothing to do with Coronavirus. It really reflects the non-rationality of humans themselves.

Yes, but this isn't the first time we've run into this. To put things in perspective of how ridiculous we've become in panicking on this...

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million) in the U.S. , 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

That was one year with the Swine Flu (which came from pigs, eh), and if those numbers were making the rounds right now people would be killing themselves in end of times fashion.

No, this stupidity is being driven (or was being driven) by something beyond the virus concern.

Before the conspiracy tinfoil hat wearers get too far gone:

The COVID-19 outbreak caused by the spread of the virus SARS-CoV-2 is a product of natural evolution, scientists conclude in a correspondence piece published in Nature Medicine.

Time to kick out da cat?

“SARS-CoV-2 seems to have an RBD that binds with high affinity to ACE2 from humans, ferrets, cats and other species with high receptor homology7.”

I don't know, I saw another report that said COVID can only transmit human to human so your animals are not a risk to you.

I have no problem social distancing from humans, the greater the distance the better. My dog and cat, not a chance. I die, I die, they'll be in my lap.
