Is everyone in a fullblown panic because of coronavirus?

I'm not arguing for the effectiveness of our health system, just the stupidity of the population.

People don't go to the ER when they get a sniffle because of bad health care. They could go to an urgent care. They do it because they don't understand the ER is for emergencies.

Not if you're here illegally. That's the illegals' primary form of health care.

All solid points and answers to the questions I asked. Just trying to stimulate some common sense thinking. For the overwhelming majority of people who become infected this it is nothing more than a week of feeling really shitty. If you're 80 with heath issues it's probably a death sentence as it is for infants. The 40 year old who is 150 pounds overweight, diabetic and can't walk across the parking lot is also high risk. I am just not sure that the long term economic damage we're going to endure from all of this lets go into hiding for the next 30 days isn't going to do considerably more harm to the general population than the virus itself.

Infants are remarkably resilient to this virus. Children are nigh invulnerable. Unless they have co-morbidity issues, of course.

Seriously......why is America suddenly taking more shits?

Oaky, lets say for the sake of argument these speculative numbers are correct. So this will last for months, even year(s). I totally agree with that, this isn't just going to magically disappear. What he didn't address is when can we expect a vaccine? That will also take months or Year(s). We'll probably end up with some glorified cocktail of electrolytes in a month or two and they'll tell people drink it, stay home and get some rest, ride it out. Frankly that can be done today. So the obvious question is, just how long do we remain on lockdown? Considering this will not go away aren't we really just prolonging the inevitable? The same high risk people we're so desperately trying to save today will still be high risk next week, next month, next year and the virus will still be here.
Every school in the Chicago area has announced they will close for the next 4 weeks. I expect just about every school in the country will do likewise by the end of next week. Every single event of every kind is or will be canceled. Lawyers are driving these decisions, but that's another discussion. So how long can we keep this up before the entire system goes belly up? The really tough decision is do we disrupt, (and that's a far too kind word considering the shitstorm on the horizon), the lives of tens of millions to try and save a half million people who are most likely to die from this anyway, be it in the next couple months, or over the next few months? Ya'll can hate me for asking the question, but I can guarantee that question will be asked by more and more people as this progresses and the country sinks into chaos and unemployment hits double digits, which I expect by summer.
