Is democracy any good ??

The system used by any country has imho a direct influence over that countryâs performance and thus the prosperity and general happiness of its people. The Soviet system collapsed because of a flawed system. The people couldnât be fooled any longer by State propaganda and the secret police were having trouble keeping â the lid on â. Much the same is happening in Iran. Will the State triumph and become an oppressive dictatorship like North Korea or opt for a sort of localised democracy ? Only time will tell.
The Christian western democracies sort of grew up gradually out of chaotic disorder and periodic bouts of warfare.
Hopefully there are improvements that can be implemented that will prevent democracyâs gradual economic failure to systems recently introduced into the BRIC countries ( Brazil, Russia, India and China ).

the fatal flaw is it allows demagogues like obama to take power
a student of history would come to the conclusion that our economy caught its fatal disease under bush and the republicans.
Democracy is great it's the people that's the problem 
i wonder. are you still a student? cutsy terms like "democraps" are something you hear from immature school kids. not mature adults.

Of course not its just a myth. Anyone not in the 2 party machines hasn't got a hope of becoming President. Even Ross Perot with his millions was a non starter.
Party jobs are bought and paid for with cash, favours and promises. It's more of a plutocracy. The party that spends most and is the least awful in recent memory is elected.
Policies I hear you say. Well yes but only up to a small part and only those passed by the party machine.
Speeches I hear you say. Well yes but they are manufactured by well paid script writers.
Delivery of speeches ? - now for that they can do some coaching and practice.
So for an electable politician one needs:-
1. A great actor to deliver speeches written by others.
As soon as the press are allowed a Q and A session it becomes apparent just what the politician is made of. G. Bush didn't even know where Afghanistan was on the map etc. etc.

My bad, "right wingers" is so much more dignified.
Maybe you could post a list of cutesy terms that are allowed here in P&R, just so the rest of us mere mortals can also act as if we're above the fray.
While you're at it can we get a ruling from your most high on Klannish, republiklans, bushites, Rush Limbfat and the like?
