Is Daytrading difficult or impossible ?

This Japanese day trader made $150 million USD for last ten years from his bedroom according to Bloomberg news. It is doable if you are a day trader. Day trading is entirely another beast. The REAL good ones understand the market like no others can. Day trader compounds his returns in days. Swing trader compounds in weeks. Investors compound in years.

That doesn't really surprise me, some Asians have the right psychological profile for day trading, I.e desire, motivation, focus, concentration and discipline.

Yep, investor bragging is the stuff of cocktail parties, especially after a few. Often best to not go into it with non-traders.

I had a very good friend who was one of the best traders I knew who tragically died this past January who used to answer when asked what he did, said..."I am semi-retired and fool around on the computer at home."

That reminds me ;daytraders/swing traders/ investors are in danger of being 12 hour/day unhealthy couch potatoes . 4 hour charts , or 12 month charts maybe OK; not a prediction.

That's a real good point. I think its a good idea to setup a schedule in the trading plan to avoid slipping into bad habits of going OCD with trading. I guess the couch potato's did not get the memo 'less is more' with trading. Staying physically active and having outlets outside of trading are vital, it may be the best edge you can give yourself. So rarely is this subject ever discussed. Many hedge funds like to hire competitive athletes as traders. I shut down my trading when my healthy outlets for the mind & body are in a rut - it is a core part of my trading philosophy.

Absolutely, I run, train Chinese martial arts and qigong, play guitar and read a lot. Balance and health are vital for trading and other living endeavors.

Not sure why a private trader would need audited financials unless they were arranging for a financing, wanting to sell something or initiating a fund. My CPA does my taxes but there is no need for certification.

Yeah, not necessarily audited, just returns that someone else has verified.

Is that a veiled way of saying you'll fund day traders with 10 years of audited returns?

Haha, afraid not. I'm a novice futures swing trader with a small account. I can barely fund myself.

I guess nearly all of the successful traders with 10+year records I'm aware of have been swing traders.

Rentech and Virtu have daytrading algos so I guess they are good examples of profitable daytrading (robots).

That story of the Japanese day trader is great. I wonder if he was profitable in 2016?

I'm just interested in hearing real stories about real traders. I see a lot daytraders claiming to be profitable. I just want to see some real proof. Maybe just 5 years of verified performance? Haha.

Although CIS may do mostly day trading this $150M trade was not form day trading - this was a swing trade. He layered into his short position over a period of a week adding size on to his winning positions than went long during the capitulation adding on to the position for several days.

Some traders are a hybrid of day & swing - apparently CIS is one of them.

I`m just about now testing a system that buys out all signals(long/short - depending on the direction) that show up regardles if the position draws down against me short term.

I've been burned one too many times believing people...never again. From now on, all parties are presumed guilty until unequivocally proven not to be a fraud.

Just curious, did you get burned because they shared with you their strategy and method, you followed their strategy and method yet you did not get the results they claimed? Otherwise I don't understand how you could get burned.

In my years here at ET, no one ever shared their recipe with me but even if they did, I would have tested it out before I implemented it.
