Happy new year! No, I have both made money and lost money day trading. I have nothing against it and think its great from the standpoint of added liquidity and volatility in the markets.
However, for most folks, it is a losing proposition right now-- HFT etc has taken any edge that once existed--- obviously, some traders may have found edges working now short term-- I have no way of knowing but my experience and contacts tell me that its very unlikely. Could things change that make day trading a worthwhile endeavor-- sure-- no one knows what the future holds.
With this said, I maintain that the evidence proves that day trading is not monetarily worthwhile for the 99% of traders. Is it worthwhile for other reasons like fun, sport and hobby, video game, gambling--sure!! best wishes to everyone, day traders included! surf

I disagree as i make money trading m1 short term very nicely, that kinda proves you wrong. Not that you will believe that with all the wannabe demo fakers on here.
I dont like or think long term is profitable, atleast from a purely chart perspective but as you seem to be part fundamental i will let you off

hedge funds have automated their daytrading. there is no liquidity in the market without daytraders. daytrading is just for generating commissions for brokers and fees for ETF funds etc.
If that's the case, why it it quite easy to make $$$'s from, getting to the stage of taking candy from a baby
And it only took 8 ish part time years LOL only LOL
You get good at it, you'll make money a lot faster for the same outlay than any other way ( maybe not options but higher risk there to )
I find a previously agreed punishment generally keeps the mind focused!!

Hmmmm,, interesting comments. Not surprising to me. From what I have seen there is not much edge in popular intraday futures symbols like ES, Euro, GC.......
Brett Steenbarger seems to agree....... He had a post where he said to make a living as a daytrader today you have to be in non-crowded products that offer unique directional opportunities or to approach crowded markets in very creative ways.... and that it was hard to imagine getting outstanding results without a unique informational edge. Very interesting discussion points.......
Wow, just read something interesting on Bigmike's, related to earlier discussion in this thread.
There was discussion of some guy Pro Trader Ed in here................... he had a site selling education where he showed track record of futures daytrading (scalping small 5-10 tick gains) in ES S&P, Euro, Oil and making 10k-20k a month trading only 2-4 lots.............. and all within an hour of trading each day. after that he quit for the day because he had all the money he needed.

Many current and former member of his club came out and outed him on Bigmike vendor review section. The amazing track record? Faked. The live calls? False advertising, he never actually did any.
Truly fascinating exposition of the cult-like aspect to daytrading guru following. Some guys said things weren't adding up for them but despite that fact..... they could not believe someone would fabricate all this. Guru would blame them if they didnt trade well. So they figure they only need to work more and harder. The crowd psychology was too strong.............. since no one else was complaining they didnt dare to complain either.
Only after one person stepped up to share his story, and then another, did more come out of hiding to back up and add more evidence. Now the guru has taken down his track record and claims of live trading.
it is all amazing and fascinating in a macabre way.....
