I hope all the Trend Line Breakout Pullback traders (sometimes known as Straight Liners) have taken advantage of the opportunities today!
After some choppy conditions around the open, CL offered a few chances to get long for a breakout to what turned out to be the day's high.
You may often hear people say that the market's tough, or cruel, or out to get you; in reality the market is often very kind, offering second (and even third) chances for traders to get positioned for a move. The day's first BOPB in CL (illustrated at hard right edge below in Pacific time) was an example of the market's kindness.
There were additional trend line BOPB opportunities in CL today. Connect your swing highs and lows on the 5-min chart, adjusting as the day progresses, and look at the 1-min chart during these time windows (Eastern time):
11:15 - 11:36 Downside breakout
12:20 - 12:24 Upside breakout
1:30 - 1:34 Downside breakout
If you're not a scalper, the NQ trend line BOPB to the upside may have retraced all 8 points of your profit at the opening bell, but you got everything you could possibly want on NFP Friday if you took the 3602-ish downside BOPB setup between 10:52 and 10:56 (which you're likely still holding since there's been no long signal yet).
Just remember, HFT can't hurt you unless you need to put massive amounts of OPM to work in the market; when you're a little retail trader, stick with the edge that's been around as long as there have been liquid markets: Price action
