Is cash no longer fully insured in an IB account ?

Quote from oldtime:

there is no cap, call up loyds of London and ask them for a quote (yes, it will cover your whole account if the broker goes belly up.)

If we were smart, we'd get organized and get Lloyds to quote on every major broker. Might be interesting to discover who the insurance Pros view as most/least problematic.

Good idea. I am in London, if no one else volunteers I'll try my luck.

in the mean time is cash in IB secure? Anyone knows?

If by "secure" you mean "not pledged to someone other than yourself" and/or SIPC-protected you may wish to study the rules related to:

--accounts with foreign subsidiaries of IB vs. US-based accounts

--Portfolio Margin accounts vs. Reg T

These issues should be considered by customers of all BD's and FCM's, especially when the company acts as both a BD and an FCM.

Good summary old.

One question to you and others: What do you do if you are a 50m hedge fund? Keep your money distributed at 100 brokers?

I am asking myself what the big guys do about this. If we see the risk with our private accounts, the problem must be much bigger as the accounts get larger and larger.

Or maybe they don't care cause it's other people's money.
they clear themselves

On February 3, 2010, Trading Technologies filed a complaint against Interactive Brokers for direct and indirect infringement of five U.S. patents owned by Trading Technologies. The plaintiffs are seeking, among other things, damages and injunctive relief.

Ninjatrader had the same situation going some years ago and they already are paying PER trade to TT in a settlement.

IB didn't want to settle but went to court?

Does anybody has more information on the status of this complaint ?

Trading Technologies has sued/sues every trading platform provider that has a DOM.

Ninjatrader users only have to pay TT fees if they use the SuperDOM, no TT fees for regular DOM.

IB changed their BookTrader DOM to comply with TT's lawsuit.

Ok thanks, But that's not true, they did not sued every trading software with a DOM, only a few of them.

See

"TT has numerous lawsuits against brokerages and other vendors over patents related to its MD Trader product, the order-entry screen incorporated in its X_Trader software. "

Besides those mentioned on the article, a Google search will find lots more, including PFG Best etc.
